Ritual Bath
Ritual bath
There are few sensations I enjoy more than climbing into a hot bubble bath. It has been one of my relaxing go tos for a very long time.
For about the past two years I have been experimenting with ritual baths. I find it a very comfortable place to meditate and in particular do shadow work.
I don’t really know why, but somehow it’s easier for me to address my shadow self surrounded by comforting, warm water. Sometimes it’s just an easier environment for me to identify what’s going on with my shadow self. Maybe because I’m a double water sign, I don’t know but water always feels like my natural habitat.
I almost always use bubbles. I like the way they feel and their aesthetic. For times when I use mindfulness meditation they really give me something to focus on.
I also sometimes use bath bombs. I find that they make the water very silky. You don’t have to put anything in the water if you don’t want to. It should just be whatever feels good and helps you relax.
Of course I have to have my candles. I choose the scents based on what I’m needing for the day.
Incense and crystals are also a must. I find them the best tool for purifying my space. Lately I’ve been using a lot of lavender incense. But you can use any scent you enjoy. The world of crystals is so vast, I couldn’t even come close to mentioning everything you might want to use here. There are a lot of great guides out there. It’s a good idea to choose based on what you’re trying to manifest or let go of. I have a basic collection and while I try to keep them somewhat catalogued, I often choose intuitively.
Music is another important element of my rituals. I often play music specifically for meditation. Other times I use the playlists I have created.

I like to take a few minutes to just zone out. Once I feel settled, I typically start with some Reiki and then depending on my needs for the day I move on from there.
I want to take the time to say that I think shadow work is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. It is super beneficial but it can be a lot. If you are feeling super depressed, it may not be the best time to jump into shadow work. Instead wait until you are in a head space where you feel like you can deal with some things. I waited to try shadow work until I was in a good routine with my regular meditations. I think it’s also super important to remember that shadow work is an on going process.
Having said all of this, you don’t have to focus on shadow work in a ritual bath. For that matter you don’t have to focus on anything. Learning to listen to your body and respect what it needs is a really important part of energy work.
You can align your bath with the lunar calendar, the wheel of the year or any other cycle you wish to sync with. I tend to base mine on my own energy work but I also like to take a ritual bath as the seasons change. I find it’s a good way for me to deal with whatever I might need to let go of.
After I’m done soaking in the lovely water and zoning and meditating, I find it important to do some grounding work to bring myself back. Grounding is a big problem for me in general. My sun and moon signs are both water and there is more water in my chart beyond that . I use a crystal like tiger’s eye to help me find my way back to earth.
