August Favorites
Between the hot weather and so many astrological events I have found myself feeling very flustered lately. Don’t get me wrong, I love siting in the sun and sipping a cold drink, but when it comes to getting work done and staying focused in the summer I sometimes have a hard time.
With that in mind, I find it so helpful to dig into my witchy routines in order to stay grounded. For me that means tarot card pulls, journaling and a whole lot of energy work.
During the summer I can get really restless. My schedule is a little slower in the summer which is wonderful, but I’ve never been a person who is great with down time. One thing that calms my nerves and satisfies my inner nerd’s constant desire to do research is studying the tarot.
There are obviously so many great decks out there, but one of my current favorites is Moon BB Magick tarot from a creatrix named Angela Mary Magick. The colors are exquisite. When I look at them I feel like a kid in a candy store.
The images are collaged and unlike any other deck I have seen. The moon is featured in a different phase on each card. Each moon phase has a keyword that adds meaning to the already rich symbolism of each card.
I mentioned the color and it’s worth mentioning again. They are vibrant and make this deck so unique. She includes a card to explain the symbolism of the colors. One thing that I personally like about the colors and images of this deck is that they are so comforting. If I pull cards with a not so great message, I still get the clarity of that but the colors make the message a little easier to take. It really boosts my mood to work with this deck.
The suites in this deck are represented differently as well.
The suit of wands is represented by lasers.
The suit of cups is represented by waves.
The suit of swords is represented by blades.
The suit of pentacles is represented by caves.
Moon BB Magick Tarot is one of my favorite decks and it comes with so many extra resources. You get a guide book which comes in digital and hard copy, some personalized gifts from the creatrix and a playlist which corresponds to each card. It is a wonderful deck for a novice or experienced reader.
I love writing in my journal and planner. I find the act of writing helps my memory and my anxiety. Lately I’ve been starting my day by writing my intention for the day in the weekly spread of my planner. I’m very picky about the tools I write with and I absolutely love the Erin Condren Colorful Dual-Tip Markers.
They come in a whole range of colors from pastel to bold and they can be purchased in boxes of three, six, or ten. The colors are amazing and I love the way these look on paper! They are great for drawing in your journal or grimoire.
I love reading in the summer. Curling up with a book on a sunny afternoon is so relaxing. One of my favorite summer reads is Do Unto Animals. In it author Tracy Stewart shares heart warming stories of how her love of animals has gotten her through some of life’s most challenging times. She also shares tips for training pets, and insights into their behavior.

I first read this book when I brought Daphne home. The training tips were really helpful. Being a first time pet-owner is amazing and also overwhelming and I found this book to be a super helpful resource.
There are also sections that discuss farm animals and wildlife. She shares everything from how squirrels, rabbits, moles and insects help your yard grow and keep it healthy to the benefits of petting a turkey! It’s a very charming book and if you are a nature lover it is the perfect summer read.
Something else I love about this book is the way it’s organized. She shares short stories from her own life, tips on pets, information on wildlife and crafts and projects you can do with your family. It’s great to sit down and read or just flip through. If you have trouble focusing you don’t have to read it all at once.
I hope you have enjoyed my favorites! Let me know how they work out for you and stay cool!
